A Wiki: Our New Coworking Bansko Knowledge Base
by Ralf Westphal
Coworking Bansko has been and still is an exciting journey. We’re overwhelmed by the number of members who signed up in summer 2019. So much is going on every day. The coworking space needs to grow further still. We’re in constant evolution — which by definition does not follow a well thought out plan. That’s one of the reasons why information about Coworking Bansko and beyond is scattered across different media/platforms.
When we started back in 2016 we did so with the best of intentions and just a few tools. We tried to avoid any overhead or dead ends. We were betting and still do on just-in-time reactions to whatever needs whenever they arise.
Our focus so far was on communication with and between (would-be) members. Attracting people through our homepage, blog, newsletter, or instagram. And keeping in touch via our facebook groups.
But as we’ve come to realize there is more than moment-to-moment communication. We need more than platforms for exchanging messages. Over time the amount of stable information, of documents grew. Some of it got written up in newsletters you receive as drip emails after becoming a member. Some of it was posted in our blog. Some went into Google docs. And still some is getting lost, because even though it might be of “timeless value” it just lives a short life as a message in a facebook group.
Coworking Bansko has grown to a point where there is so much to know, where members have compiled such a wealth of helpful as well as interesting information for short term members and nomads looking for a homebase, that we felt it’s time to put all these info nuggets in a single basket.
Enter: the Coworking Bansko Wiki
The wiki is our current idea for how to consolidate the many dispersed information sources. It’s supposed to become your one-stop shop for all you want to know about Coworking Bansko, getting there, living in Bansko, even moving to Bansko, and having a good time.
Sometimes the pages of the wiki contain just pointers to the actual information or further reading. At other times they provide the information itself in the form of explanations. And then there are many tables of information snippets, e.g. on restaurants or people to contact for services.
Most of the wiki is public, but there is also an exclusive part for members only, like with our facebook groups.
Coworking Bansko is and will be evolving, so is the wiki. We don’t think of it as static or to be finished soon. Rather it’s under constant development, sometimes barely noticeable, sometimes making bigger leaps.
Currently we’re using NotionHQ as the wiki platform. It’s a great tool because it allows for easy inclusion of very different media, makes links to other web pages informative, and offers great features to compile similar data in tables with different views.
